We are unable to see any Futura fonts in the list of fonts that can be selected in a new document, even though these fonts appear to be installed correctly in Windows and are accessible from other packages.

However, when a Pagemaker file is opened which uses these fonts, the fonts it uses appear in the list.

We have been tearing our hair out over this. Any help that anyone could give us would be very much appreciated.

Steve

Steve: please check first, where the fonts are located.
a) Windows/Fonts : TrueType
b) PSfonts : Postscript Type 1 (ATM installation)

Hi, thanks for replying.

All of the TrueType fonts appear to be installed in the folder c:\WINNT\Fonts. In this folder there are also some files of type "Font" (as opposed to "True Type Font") with a red icon.

There is also a folder c:\Psfonts. This appears to contain 3 sub-directoried (Afm, Fontinfo and Pfm) but when browsing to these directories I can't see any other files.

Steve: express reply: Futura is certainly an ATM Type 1 Font.
If you don´t find the font in PSFonts, you should try to install it
correctly by ATM from a CD . Each Type 1 font is represented
by 2 entries in 2 folders. ---G.Hoffmann

Is there any way to include fonts(ie. embedd them or include them in an additional file) in a publication for viewing or printing on another machine that does NOT have the partciular fonts???

Thakkars: simply copy the fonts to the folder for
the Service Bureau, but don´t forget: two files for one font.
On other machines they have to installed correctly, using ATM,
source from the folder or CD. Be aware not have the same name
for two fonts. ---G.Hoffmann

Steve,
I'm having the same problem & I'm also searching for the answer. I have been using PageMaker extensively for about 6 years and only in the last 6 months or so has this problem popped up.
My spouse researched the problem & was told that it was because I have too many fonts. I have about 800 at the moment. (I do work for a wide variety of non-profit clients and I also use dingbats extensively for graphics so I need a large number of fonts). For years I had over 1000, and I've collaborated with professionals who thought nothing of this number of fonts. For these reasons it seems unlikely that the problem is related to too many fonts.
On the other hand, I've begun to experience a second problem which seems to support the too many fonts hypothesis. My Pagemake software installation has begun to degrade about a month after I reinstall it and the errors claim to be font-related. None of my other Adobe progams, nor my Corel (WordPerfect, etc) nor MS programs are having this problem.
I hope someone has an answer. Maybe there's a bug? Maybe this is "known issue" with Adobe, but I haven't been able to find the site where Adobe actually deals with its users, even a FAQs page.

According to experts in the Adobe PM Forum,
too many fonts will cause problems.
Please take into account, that a simple Type 1 font
like Helvetica is represented at least by normal, bold, italic
single fonts, each in two folders.
The ultimate solution should be: use ATM Deluxe and make
only the necessary fonts active. I use very few fonts, there-
fore I have neither problems nor personal experience,
but I thought, I should proceed this warning.
