Hello Guys,

I have installed evaluation copies Backup Exec with Admin Plus Pack on 2 servers. BackupExec is running fine. I can schedule jobs, run the jobs and all that. But my problem is that I can't view reports from Admin Plus Pack Option showing jobs or schedules on the 2 servers. Each report from Admin Plus Pack will only display activities on that server.

Do I need to configure the Admin Plus Pack Option somewhere on the servers? What can I do to get the reports from all the severs showing on a single console without logging on to that server.

Please I need this solution urgently.

Kind Regards,

John

Actually, I think it is possible to view the reports for multiple servers.

However, you will need to setup BE to run with the Shared Storage Option (SSO). Since you are running evaluation copies, you have an opportunity to configure BE with SSO

It is easy to configure and setup. The Backup Exec Admin manual located on your C:\program files\veritas\backup Exec\nt\beadmin.pdf will be able to guide you through the Setup process.

And if you're wondering if you need a fiber attached library to setup a SSO environment; its just not true.

Your goal here is to share a single database between two Backup servers for assisting with your reporting. Turning on the SSO option will allow you to do this. SSO will also allow you to centralize your restore catalogs.

Give it a try; it has been working very well in our environment. We currently have a configuration where 15 backup servers share one primary centralized database.

Hi Marverick,

Well, the evaluation is in a customer site. Actually theu dont have SSO option and including it in my evaluation as you said may work but on the production servers, APPO wont work. So it might not solve my problem.

So does it mean that APPO cant report on multiple servers. So why all the noise on APPO that one can monitor all servers from a single console. My customer bought the idea and they want to implement the option so that from a single console they can see the performance of their media servers from a single report. I thought it was possible on a single report and I sold the idea to them.

So the customer provided 2 servers for the evaluation. I have install the option on the 2 servers. On checking on the reports, I saw that it only reports on per server. If I need reports on the other server, I have to remotely logon to that server to check on the reports.

So apart from SSO, APPO cant report on multiple servers as i thought.

JN,
I thought of another option you might want to try. It might be bit more work, but if you or your team is good with SQL, scripting, and creating web interfaces.

All the SQL report queries for Backup Exec can be viewed through SQL Enterprise Manger. The Report queries are bundled up in stored procedures. They're a great source for creating customized reports.
