I need to add more columns to a spreadsheet - that appears to have a maximum running through to column IV

I have searched the threads in tis forum - and came across a posting of someone asking to increase the rows from the 65000 set by default - which was not achievable - is this the same with columns?

Thanks for your time

It is not possible to increase either the amount of rows (65536) or columns (256, or Col IV). This limit has not been increased in XL2002 either.

The only work around that I can think of is to use a second worksheet and keep goign where you left off. Excel will let you use data across worksheets just as if they were on the same one.

If you are having to import data, you can select what data gets improted to what sheet.

Other than that. Ken is right on target. Those are hard coded limits.

Sorry I couldn't help any more than that.

You really don't want to do that - If you are reaching the limits of excel's size, you should probably think about migrating to access.

Depends on whether he is using up all the rows as well though. If it is just a few rows but he has run out of columns then he could spread it across more sheets, but would be better off thinking about transposing his data to rows anyway. If indeed he is using all rows and columns, then absolutely he should be looking towards a database solution.

It would be just as easy for the OP to store all the data in Access and then query it with Excel, giving him a nice front end he was familiar with.
