I am installing a new control unit to a system that is currently being used on a county government phone system. They are no longer part of the county and are going to be stand alone. They currently have approximately 150 4621sw phones as well as some digital and analog phones. I have already purchased all the licenses required, so that's not an issue. But is there a way to add a block of ip extensions. All i can figure out is how to do them individually. Additionally, I always use digital phones, so do I add them as H323 or SIP?

Any other advice on setting them up would be greatly appreciated. I'm just not as well versed on anything beyond digital phones.

Thanks so much

While deploying the IP Phones enable the "Auto-create extension" in the System>LANx>VoIP settings.
Make sure the phones get the right IP settings either per manual config or (preferred) per DHCP.
When the phone boot up ( as the phones are used this is mandatory to do! ) press * when shown in the display.
Then repeatetly press * until the message "No changes, enter command" appear.
Then press the Mute (or HOLD, depends on type of station) and the code "CLEAR" followed by #
The phone reponds with "Clear values press # to confirm" and the press #
The phone reboots, wait for the message "Enter extension number" and enter the users telephone number.
The IP extension (H.323) with the same number will be created.
When all phones are registered then disable the "Auto-create extension" feature as a security measure.

Maybe I made a small error in the method ( typed from the head ) but it won't be far off.

no digital phones are not h.323 or sip, you will need a digital 16 or 30 module or a combo card to use digital phones.you do not mention your system or software release which would be most helpful

acss sme acis sme acss cm 5.2.1 acss cm and cmm acss aura messaging.

Thanks, so there's no way to do this ahead of time so I can pre-create the users? There's a lot of phones and this is happening during business hours because it's an assisted living that never closes.

You can import users. Open up manager go to file | import/export | import and hit help and do some reading there...

If the swap is done during business hours, you better hook them all up in your lab first, and use the IPO that goes out to the customer.

Imagine the chaos when 150 phones try to upgrade firmware! You don't want that on launch day. If the IPO is handing out the software, you'll be hangig from the gallows before lunch...

Do as Intrigrant says, and label the boxes with extn number when done (so you can hand them out quickly and they don't have to do anything to get dial tone)

Kind regards

Create one new user/ H232 extension then save both as a template. You can then create multiple users and extension by right clicking and select "new from template", set the number of items and start extension number and away you go!

+++ Divide By Cucumber Error. Please Reinstall Universe And Reboot +++

Manually creating the extn will be redundant, the phone will do that by it self.
(If you do it as described above).

The phone needs to be logged in at some point, so why bother doing the job twice?

Kind regards

Gunnar

As said, used phones always need manual intervention, each one of them.
Then it is the easies thing to clear the phone and register it in one go, registering also automatically add the extension.
Users can be imported before the phones are registered from a .csv file.
The created IP Extensions do not need further configuration, all features are in the user settings.

Another tip from a pro : use a external http (web) server, IP Office http download speed is limited to 64 kb/sec in total and there is also a max in the number of connections at any given time ( I don't know how much but it is quite limited ).
So upgrading from the IP Office SD card is 64 kb/no of phones per second.
Upgrading 150 IP sets takes approx eight ( 8! ) hours. With a remote webserver it takes a few minutes to get them up and running.
