I've been asked to set up this bad boy with an i2004 but I've never touched anything related to a KEM in the phone system. The "Example Setup" section says "Within CS 1000, configure the IP Alerter (which appears to the system just as a Key Expansion Module would) by setting Key 0 of the Alerter (the “KEM”) in System Programming as an appearance of the line to be monitored. Once set, telephone alerting is activated." Does this sound right? If so, how do you configure such a thing?

I think what they are saying is make the first key of the KEM the same as key 0 and make it ring. So in programming at the KEM prompt set that to 1. The first key on an I2004 KEM I beloieve is 32. So make key 32 SCR the same dn as key 0.

@KCFLHRC: Is the KEM prompt one that I would see / access through a terminal session with the PBX or through the interactive prompts on the i2004 phone? How do I make key 32 scr? Is there a special load for it or just do it in load 20? Also, do any specials classes need to be enabled?

You will see the KEM prompt when you do a change on the phone in ld 20 or ld 11. Set that prompt to 1. Ten when you get down to the key programming do this.

Key 32 scr xxxx

xxxx being the dn you wont to activate the alerter.

You may have to change the KEM prompt to 1 and then return through all the other programming and then go back and program the key.

Thanks guys. I'll see where I can get with this information and let you know my findings.

Okay, so I'm starting to wonder if it's an issue with the software version on the phone system. Is there a load / command I can use to show the version, release, etc. of the system?

In LD 22 issue the command iss, this will give you the release and version.

@KCFLHRC: Thanks. I got the following details back when issuing the "iss" command in LD 22. The KEM is saying that it requires a "Nortel CS1000 (Release 4.0 and later)". I'm getting the feeling this system is not up to the level that the KEM needs it to be. Am I reading that correctly?

VERSION 3021
RELEASE 3
ISSUE 00 + DepList x210300_cpt

Yep, you are on 3.0. Can you supply a printout of the phone you are trying to put this on? The prompt in 3.0 may be AOM

@KCFLHRC: As requested. And even though I feel like I've seen an AOM setting on phones before, I'm not seeing it in this one.

Kinda looks like your screwed on that 3.0 release. You will see the AOM prompt on 2616's, I thought it might show up here also. I don't see anything in your print out that would allow for a KEM. I also thought the KEM's were for the new 1140 type phones.

Your alternative would be to set up an analog port with this same extension and buy a high voltage strobe to activate on ring voltage.

I found another thread on this in a Google Search, you have to be on release 4.0 for these to work. Sorry :( Looks like the analog port is your answer.

I found something else on this. In the CLS of the phone try putting in KEM2, then return through the programming. Then print it out and see if you see the extra keys.

@KCFLHRC: Trying to add a KEM2 class only results in an SCH0341 error. I think you're right that I'm out of luck.

Yea, it was a long shot. Oh well. I haven't seen a 3.0 system for years.

@KCFLHRC: I appreciate all of the help. And yes, I'm sure you haven't. We're actually going to be upgrading it in a few months (finally) after a very long time of dragging our feet. 7.5 here we come.
