Hello all,

we are currently running a live Sun Fire V880 with 4 750 MHz processors.
We have another V880 with 6 750 MHz cpus which we would like to steal 2 cpus from for the live box.

Is this possible to swap over cpus or will I run into licensing/hardware problems?

any thoughts?

thanks

K

Assuming you've bought both boxes, I don't see a problem. Be warned that some Oracle licenses (if you're using it) are based on number of processors, however.

Thanks Ken,

yes both boxes are our property!!

We are aware of the Oracle issue - a snip at 10k per cpu!

thanks

K

No probs. As you say, a snip! The only other issue I'd address is to let Sun or your external support provider know about the config change so that there won't be any 'this isn't what we have in our records' moments when the engineer arrives in case of failure at a later date.
