Greetings,

I have a raid 5 setup on one of our servers.

I wanted to add more drives to this server. All drives are currently 9gb and new drives I have are also 9gb. This machine has 2 open slots available.

Are they any problems I might run into adding these new drives?

I was just going to shut the machine down. Add in the 2 drives and boot it backup.

Its a right and wrong way to go about adding more drives to a raid 5 configuration.

Thanks,

What type of raid 5 are you running? hardware or software? If you are running a hardware raid then you will need to add the drives in accordance to the manufacture specifications for your raid card, shuting down and putting in the new drives is not going to automatically add them to your existing array, hardware raid does not work that way.
