I'm trying to add x64 under additional drivers for our existing 32bit printer shares on x86 2003 Server sp2...

If i try to add x64 drivers for say, laserjet 2200, I browse out to the x64 2003 CD for the inf file under AMD64.. it then prompts stating: "the specified location does not contain the driver HP LaserJect 2200 Series PCL 6 for the requested processor architecture".

I tried this same routine for our Phaser 6250DP printer, if I browse to the x64 folder, where we have the specific x64 drivers for it, I get the error "selected driver must be installed remotely".

Is it not possible to install an x64 version of a printer driver on a x86 server (not itanium)?

Thanks

I am pretty sure you cannot run any x64 software on a x86 system.

Actually you can.. i just finally figured out what was wrong.

If these problems occur, the solution for me at least, was to recreate the printer driver (on x86 server 2003)... for the built in variety select the appropriate driver that MS provides.. then goto sharing.. additional drivers and check off x64, browsing to the 64bit inf file as above. It should then work.

In one case.. for the Phaser 6250dp printer, I had to recreate that driver as well, except this time when I browsed for the driver on x86 2003, I chose the x64 driver from the getgo. I did NOT need to then do the additional drivers. It showed up with x86 checked off, however, it still installed fine on x64 Vista.

Cheers
