Hi.
My son has just given me a netgear WGT624
wireless firewall router. The wireless part
doesn't work ( one of the reasons he gave it to
me).
I have an existing Siemens 4200 Speedstream modem/router
connecting via USB to ADSL broadband on a Pc running
Win XP Pro.
I also have an old P2 clunker running win98.
The two Pcs are networked with crossover ethernet
& network cards. The network isn't running for
some reason, despite each pc being able to ping each
other's absolute IP address ( 192.168.0.x), i think [ the reason may be]
maybe dns name resolution. - although that is a separate issue &
i think the solution will be different if i can get the wireless router
working.
My son suggests reconfiguring as follows:
phone ---> filters --->
socket etc
(cont'd)
speedstream 4200 -(ethernet)-> netgear -ethernet--> Xp Pro PC
modem/router patch firewall patch

v
Win98 PC.
To get the setup for the
speedstream 4200 i need to point to 10.1.1.1
To get the setup for the
netgear router need to point to 192.168.0.1
[ oops this was the TCP/IP adress
for the Xp Pc. ]
I propose to
1. uninstall existing Adsl connection (optusnet - my ISP),
configured with USB connector to pc <---> cable ---> 4200 modem.
2. re install adsl connection specifying ethernet connection as above.
My ISP uses dynamic rather than static naming.
I'll have a look at the kerio 2.1.5 firewall to see if i
can get a feel for the ranges i have 'accepted'.
3. I think i need to set the modem speedstream 4200 to point to 10.1.1.1
poe etc.
then set acceptible ranges somehow to 192.168.0.x 255.255.255.
4. then tcp /ip xp pc to 192.168.0.100 say
win 98 pc to 192.168.0.104 say
Anyone got any comments ( before i try this & prolly bugger up something).
if i do then i assume i just revert to the original set-up.
