Folks,
We have a MICS with one 0x12 trunk mod and two 0x16 sta mod's. I have always turned the system down when another LS/DS card was added. Since it's an older system, I run the risk of a bad cap on NVRAM. However, can a "hot swap" be done w/o turning the KSU down? In other words, can I just unplug the fiber cable between the KSU, add the next card, then reconnect the fiber and.....not have to power down the system completely?

Just power down the trunk module and put your card in, then power it up again. You will get an alarm but at reception, just clear it.

You don't need to power down at all just disable the slot/card in maint. pop it in then enable. The only time you power down is if you add a card to the KSU.

The one reason you mite not want to power down a trunk module is if there are lines on the other card or cards that way you wont take any line in use out of service.

Still better than powering down the entire system. If the trunk mod doesn't come back up in about 3min, disable and re-enable it in programming.

Hey Rik...thanks to all...I try tomorrow (after hours)..
