I've just purchased a new server with w2003 & the Presentation Server 4.0 cd's. Setup & updated the server - fine, but have not installed the 4.0 yet. I also have the older metaframe 1.8 running on another w2k server in my lan.
I'm slightly confused about the 'farm' concept. If I am reading the docs correctly, I need to configure a database product, which was not required with the 1.8. Is this mandatory with 4.0?
My goal is to continue the 1.8 server with it's 5 licenses, but to also allow connections to the new citrix server (10 licenses).
Will these servers co-exist in my lan, or will I need to dump the old 1.8 server?
This may not be relevent: My ISP provided a block of 16 ip addresses & I port forward based on ip address.
Thanks - Keith

Database is required. Access,SQL,Oracle.

They cannot be in the same farm.

true. can not be in the same farm, but can be on the same lan.

you can create an other zone for the new server, and put it in... and of course you need new farm and new database as ascotta's wrote...

Thanks for the reply both. Slogging thru the Admin Guide and so far have not seen a scenario that applies to my situation, but am only on page 44. I think in my small deployment that the MSDE solution is better than Access, since MSDE is free (My server is 2003 Standard Edition). So I intend to install MSDE first (as doc mandates) and push on.

Regarding Farm & Zone: It's been a few years since I setup 1.8, but I don't remember setting it up in a farm, much less a zone. I don't care if (or want) these Citrix Servers talking to each other. I'd like to keep the mf1.8 status quo & just introduce another access point with the ps4 server.

Any comments appreciated.

I'd highly recommend hiring a Citrix Consultant familiar with this kind of installation to assist you as this is not something you should be messing with in a production environment unless you've first tested in a lab environemnt, or have done many times before.
