I am adding a new windows 2003 standard server R2 as an additional domain controller to an existing windows 2003 standard server sp1 domain. Any thing special i need to know about the R2 release, do i need to expand the schema or run any utilities against the older 2k3 server before i can dcpromo the R2 server? The older 2k3 server is 100% up2date with windows updates, any insight would be great.

thanks,

I believe R2 has some schema support for Vista that did not ship with Server 2003.

I would attempt to run ADPREP /FORESTPREP and ADPREP/DOMAINPREP from the R2 CD. If it is not needed, then it will inform you that it has already been run.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Thanks for the reply markdmac. Thats kind of what i figured i would have to do. I have been all over Microsoft's website and i cant find any docs covering this, anyone know of any please post a link.

Thanks,

I don't know of a link but you do need to run adpred from the 2nd CD has Mark said. The schema is then updated from version 30 to 31 I believe.
