adding a new field to returned recordset

Hey, I was wondering if it was possible to append a field to a recordset that I got from calling a stored proc?

note I saw the post that was in the tek-tips (titled: Append Field to an ADODB.Recordset) but when I tried to append the field before I opened the recordset the field then didn't show up
