I installed my USB headset.I am trying to make it my default for audio recording and sound for now. I go into the control panel and then into Multimedia. On the audio tab, u can choose the prefered device for audio playback and recording. My choices are Use any Playable Device,
C-Media Audio Playback (D000), Game Compatible Device, and Voice Modem Wave #00 Line. None of those work for my headset. How do i add my headset to that list so it will work???

Something to possibly try. For the preferred device, select the active sound card that is in use for your preferred device in playback and recording. It will most likely be the one that appears in the box. Click OK and close.

Double click the speaker icon in the system tray, click options,(Master Volume Control Panel) then properties, and see if the usb software installed a recognizeable item in the list. If so, make sure the box is checked so that panel will show up in your Master Volume Control Panel, then OK, then make sure the mute box isn't checked for the USB device. If the mute box is checked, then this should be your problem.

Well i did what u said...The mute box was checked. However, it still doesnt apper in my Audio Properties as a useable device [sad] . Any other suggestions?

I'm not familiar with a USB headset, (I'm curious what advantage they have over regular ones), but I wouldn't think that a headset would be listed as an audio device the same way that speakers wouldn't be listed as an audio device. But if it IS installed as an audio device with it's own drivers, then it should be listed in Device Manager, and you can check that the properties are set to 'exists in all hardware profiles' at the bottom of the 'general' tab. You may have to check 'disable in this hardware profile' for your pre-existing sound devices, (integrated sound or PCI sound card), so only device is active. This all should have been in the install instructions or readme files.

Are the headsets new ? Can they be defective ?
