addind page numbering to my book

Hi all, I have a question about adding page numbers to my book.
It has over 160 pages now and I need to have a page numbering.
I have tried to insert footnotes and what not, but im not succesful at adding a number to all pages in one go.
Could anyone please help me?

...create a text box on master pages used and then right click the text box and choose:

Insert Special Character > Auto Page Number

..if you haven't used master pages you will need to assign a master to all the pages in the page palette, you can do this by shift selecting all the pages, right click and 'apply master pages to'...

...you will need both left and right hand pages set up in the master pages with auto numbering boxes and apply as appropriate...
