We have recently just added a new Exchange 5.5 server to our organisation (Exchange 5.5 on Windows 2000), to add to two others whcih are both on NT4. I have configured the AD Connector, as we have a mixed mode AD.

The problem we are now having is that users are able to send plain messages, but once you add an attachment, it is not delivered and is bounced back.

Is there anything amiss with this that we perhaps have overlooked?

Thanks in advance.

Have you set a maximum message size on the MTA for the new server ?

Go into Site -> Configuration -> Servers -> ServerName & properties on Mail Transfer Agent

Check the maximum message size is not set too small

There are no limits set on the MTA on any of the servers. There are no limits to mailbox sizes either.

what's the error message on the bounce?
Also, you don't need the ADC, that's just for connecting E2K with E5.5.

Thanks for your help. On further investigation, we found that the mail server with the IMS had a corruption in the database, which was allowing emails with no attachments through, but bouncing attachment emails with "communication failure" errors.

We have trashed this server and re-created the IMS on another server, and all is well.
