Add/Remove Programs

Hello,
I just found a problem with my windows 2000 system and was hoping that someone has an idea of how to fix it.
When I go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs, The window opens but I get an error message. It states

"An unexpected error occurred

Object doesn't suppot this method or property
res://appwiz.cpl/default.hta
Line 75"

What can I do to fix it? Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

It's not the exact symptom you're having, but it does involve a *.cpl file in the error message. Instead of removing all the *.cpl files as suggested, maybe remove just the one that's in your error message.

Hi,
I read the fix but not sure if I want to mess with the registry. I read that part of the fix invloves this:

Perform an in-place upgrade:
From the Windows 2000 installation CD-ROM, run Winnt32.exe from the \I386 directory.
When the Windows 2000 Setup screen appears, select the option to Upgrade to Windows 2000.
Allow installation to complete.


Is there a chance that this will fix it? Could it hurt anything?

Have you tried steps 1 & 2 yet?
1. On the Start menu, click Run, and then type CMD.
2. At the prompt, type REGSVR32 APPWIZ.CPL.
This will attempt to register the *.cpl file. This alone might fix it, if not post back and I'll check more into this.

Any thoughts on the possibility of running Winnt32.exe to fix the problem? Would that rewrite the cpl file? I appreciate any advise or ideas.

If you don't want to edit the registry, I think this is another option. You might have to complete steps 1+2 over after the upgrade is finished. You also might want to try running a repair outside of windows. Boot your pc from the W2K cd and follow the options for repair.
