I realize from previous experience and posts how to uninstall existing devices. However how do you remove traces of old devices that aren't listed anymore? In Win 2K A/R Hardware would show you old CD drives,hard drives, display adapters and more, where is this in XP and don't say the device manager. For example I have a removable drive cage for alternate Win 9x, 2K & XP loads for beta testing, I recently installed a new DVD Rom and DVD Burner, I uninstalled the drives on my main hard drive but on my testing drives they weren't removed so when I just booted up a test drive it recognized the new drives and the old ones aren't shown anymore (CD Rom & CDRW). However if I do a search of the registry the old drives are still listed with there own keys. In Win 9x you just boot to safe mode, look in the device manager and there is the old drives ready to be removed. In Win 2K you use add/remove hardware and show hidden devices and there they are again. So what's the trick with XP to make them appear or do I have to manually scour the registry, OH Boy what fun that would be. Please help enlighten me.
