Using Cisco 801 router to connect ISDN line to my ISP. I currently have just the one telephone number to dial ISP, but because of overloading, the ISP is making additional alternative numbers available. Two questions:-

1. How do I add additional phone number(s) to the router?

2. Will the router automatically try the alternative number(s) if the first one is busy?

N.B. If it's of any consequence, I've had to disable Ch2 on the router as using this brings up my second ISDN line. Using this second line would result in unacceptably high call charges from both the telco and my ISP.

I take it the answer's no, then...

Presumably this router will only handle one dialup number, and one needs to re-run the configuration and change the dialer string if an alternate number is required. I've tried putting two "dialer string..." lines into the config, but only the first line appears to be used by the router.

The router tries the first "dialer string" and if it cannot get a connection it tries the next one. This should work. Just remember that it will always try the first "dialer string" first with any connection attempt.

Thanks for that Rob... However, I now have THREE lines in there, but it refuses to use the second and third ones even when the first number is busy:-

...
dialer string xxxxxxx6080 class DialClass
dialer string xxxxxxx3251 class DialClass
dialer string xxxxxxx6001 class DialClass
...

Something is definitely weird with this router, as for no good reason it suddenly stopped "logging console".

It also seems truly bizzare to me that every other "logging console" command except "debugging" appears in "show run". It makes one wonder just how many other hidden commands are in there for goodness sake! SHOW RUN only appears to give half the story - what do I type in to get the FULL picture?

Yours exasperatedly
