Hi all,

I'm trying to find a way to create an MMC on my XP Pro machine where I can add snap-ins such as Active directory users and computers for our 2000/2003 domain controllers? Basically, instead of doing remote desktop to our server and running the MMC from there, I want to create an MMC on my own machine to manage domain user accounts from there. I had a look on the web and found the following on the M$ website.

I located the file adminpak.msi in C:\windows\system32 on the 2003 server that the doucment refers to but I'm a little confused from reading the document about whether I'm supposed to run that file on my XP Pro machine or not !! It says don't run it but then goes on to tell you where to find it and says that running it will install all the MMC-based management tools. If this was my home machine, I'd have run it by now, but as I'm not in this job even a month yet, I don't want to screw anything up ... at least not for a few more weeks yet !!!!!

can anybody help? sorry about the long post

y2k1981,

You can run the adminpak.msi on a computer on your domain. What it will do is add certain things (don't know them by head but at least Active Directory Users and Computers - the one you need) to your pc. After that you can either start it through your start menu or your mmc.
