I added a new server (Novell 6.0 sp4) to an existing tree with two other Novell 6.0 sp3 servers. The new server is at a remote location. The new server is partitioned and the old servers have replicas on the new server.

But what I noticed is that the old servers are also replica on the tree (root) level but the new server is not.

Can I just add the new server as a replica (secondary) at the tree level?

My Master server is 6.0 sp3 - do I need to upgrade to sp4 on this server before trying to add the new replica? Is it safe to add the replica to a live network or should it be done after hours?

Thanks,

jane

The new server you added will only get a replica automatically for the partition you install it into (since it was the 3rd server). Any replicas of other partitions have to be done manually.

You should be able to add the replica with no problems. However, it may cause extra network activity which is why sometimes it is best to wait till after hours.

Adding on, it may be worth ensuring that your DS versions are the same across all servers. If that means installing SP4, then I suggest it may be a good idea.
