I have a naming convention for the user to save a file in a specific location using as the convention the ID of theat particular record.

The file is a word document.

So the location is always the same and each document is a number from an auto number ID field.

I would like the document to show up in a report.

I need the report to grab the file according to its specific ID number

Can you help?

Thanks

Mathew

You need the "Dir" function. Access Help gives an excellent example of exactly what you are seeking to do.

Thanks I have changed this, but really, I want, a user to open my form and add a map to a report. They have to edit the map. The map is a word document on which they put arrows and text.

I would like that map to be available for the m to edit (Easily) and then for it to be saved as an embeded object.

I had been thinking if they could simply open the word document form a hyperlink, edit it and save it wit the ID number of the record, a report could automatically display that document with a link to that location document wit the additional variable of the ID number.

Hmmm

Ok. Load a list or combo box with the results of the dir function. Add the path (which is constant, right?) and file name together. Place this in your application statement to open the word document. This would simulate a hyperlink. The alternative is to keep a table of word document locations, or hyperlink, as the report is created. The use the address in the open application.

Someone may come along with a better suggestion. Good luck.
