We are currently migrating from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange
2003. We are currently at step 6 (configuring the Active
Directory Connector to communicate with the old Exchange
5.5 server). Since Exchange 5.5 is running on a DC, the
LDAP port has been set to 390 instead of the default port
of 389. We enter all the required credentials, select
port 390 and the proper 5.5 server and get the validation
checkmarks on both the exchange 5.5 screen and Active
Directory admin account screen.
For some strange reason though, when the summary screen
is presented before the final step, the tcp port for the
old exchange 5.5 server has been changed from 390 to 379
(and since it's a summary screen, it can't be changed).
Upon further investigation, we have found that tcp port
379 is associated with SRS, but once again are a bit
baffled because SRS only runs on Exchange 2000 or 2003
servers for backwards compatibility communications to
Exchange 5.5 replication.
Thus our question is 2 fold:
1) Why is the ADC connection wizard changing the port we
entered of 390 to 379.
2) Why would ADC ever want to use port 379 in the first
place to communicate with an Exchange 5.5 server which
doesn't run SRS?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
