I attempted to upgrade my Exchange site and after I took my front end Exchange 2000 servers off line (We are replacing with new hardware) and tried to install the first Exchange 2003 server, it came up with an error saying that ADC tools has not been run. We already have a ADC setup with CA to each site in our orginization

My question is:

1) Is there a way around not running the ADC tools
2) What does the ADC Tools do? I can not find a KB article or any documentation on it.

Our environment looks like this:

Back End Exchange 2000 A/P cluster

Exchange ADC server (The ADC service has been upgraded to the 2003 ADC)

Exchange 5.5 Server for communicaions to our Home Office (Some of the other sites are still 5.5 servers)

5 Front End Servers for OWA.

Thanks for any help that you all can provide.

The ADC help you to synchronize your AD data to Exchange 5.5 and NT4 systems.

You will need to run the tools to upgrade the ADC connections.

When you have fully moved to 2003 and have no NT4 or Exchange 5.5 then you will be able to remove the ADC entirely. But not before then.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

What will running the tools do to my current ADC Configuration? Is this a safe operation to run or will it blow away the current ADC configuration?

It will update the connections.

I hope you find this post helpful.
