I have a computer with Win 98, with a cdrom, not recognized by the computer and a CD-RW recognized by the computer. "The device is working properly." I think my brain went on vacation becasue I cannot figure out how to get the CD-RW to burn onto a CD. Can someone please help me? Thanks, JL

Did you install your burning software, such as Nero or Roxio EZ-CD Creator?

I thought that might be the problem so I tried to install HP CD-Writer Plus and it said it was already installed. Is this the same as Roxio? Thanks for the help, JL

I honestly don't know. Nero and Roxio EZ-CD Creator are two of the most popular CD burning software packages. I know that CD-Writer Plus is what HP calls it's CD burners, but I don't know if it's the name of a CD burning software package. Did the burner come with any other software?

If it did I do not have it. This is a used computer. I will see at work tomorrow if there is Roxio software. This was all I could find last I looked but maybe I just missed it. Thank you for letting me know that is what I need to look for. Janet Lyn

If it is older burning software it most likely does not recognize the modern higher speed writer. Try to download new trial software from Roxio, Nero or diskjuggler, uninstal the old software reboot and install the trial software. It probably will then work ok. Greetings

Jurgen

Jurgen is right, old software would not be aware of a new drive. It might be a good idea to use a trial version of something just to see if it works.

Download "Belarc Advisor". It will tell you what type of CD's you have. Then you can look for the correct driver software.

Ps. I forgot to mention. IT IS USUALLY VERY BAD PRACTICE TO HAVE MORE THEN ONE BURNER SOFTWARE ON THE SYSTEM. This will cause clashes as every software tries to access the burner. The result can be a system lock up or wasted CDR's. Regards

Hi there, also make sure that the updated Adaptec ASPI drivers are installed... some burning software won't function correctly if they aren't...

and jurgen36 - yes and no... if one is to install more than one burning software (one of my machines has actually 4 different ones on it Nero, CloneCD, Alcohol, and ISO-Buster and they function harmonically), you'll have to de-install their SCSI-CLONE VIRTUAL CD/DVD drivers...

Hey guys. Thank you so much. I could not find an obvious CD burning program. I also downloaded Berlac Advisor and could not find an obvious burner program there. So, I then went online and found a free downloadable of Discjuggler. I was able to burn a word document onto a CD-R. However, it was very inconvenient to use. So, I will probably buy Roxio tomorrow unless someone can give me something easier to use. My mother is using this program and she is one of those people who asks "Where is the ANY key?" HAHA.

Y'all are wonderful. Thanks so much for the advice. Janet Lyn

Great, Janet Lyn. Roxio is easy to use and will probably suit your purposes. Of course, Nero is also a very good burning app, too. Either will serve you well. You might want to make certain that your burner is supported by checking Roxio's web site. Best of luck.

Kevin

I'm glad you suggested that because I would have never thought about it, bought it, and then be out of luck. Y'all are the best. Have a wonderful day. JL
