I have built a windows 2003 server on different hardware from what AD is running on now. After I install backup exec 9.1 ( for now ) to a different location I proceed to do a full restore in AD non-authoritative mode. once that is done I replace the boot.ini,hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe to the orgiinally one from the new machine. i do a restart. the new machine fails to boot up full.

i have viewed the following article along with many others .

Anyone done a AD restore to totally different hardware?

Not supported by Backup Exec 9.1
Backup Exec is a backup and restore to same hardware.
IDR option the hardware has to be the same as well.
Microsoft has article on how to move a DC to different hardware.

You also may want to look at Backup Exec System Recovery. That is a disk bases backup that will allow you to restore to any hardware
