Hi there,

Got a question here.... recently it hasbeen reporting in the log that "Unable to logon to database engine" DATABASE=ARCSERVE, EC=-2005 andthen in the job queue section it reports a LogID of *8 but says the last result was "Finished". I tried searching the CA Support site and nothing appeared to be on there? anyone else have experiences with this?

Regards,

You can take a look at the following link :
I had the same problem last week and solved it by initializing the database. Before initializing the database, you could try to run dbcheck to check it and dbfix to fix it. To know more about the database utilities, you should read the following :

yeah, I dont think that is pertaining to ARCserve 2000 workgroup or workstation edition!

It always gives a "Unable to logon to database engine" DATABASE=ARCSERVE, EC=-2005 andthen in the job queue section it reports a LogID of *8 but says the last result was "Finished".

Are you using VLDB/Raima or SQL Server?

If you are using the default database (VLDB) then the database may be corrupt. You can try stopping the db engine, copying the database directory to the side and reinitializing all of the databases by using the server admin. You will have to recreate all your media pools and if you need to perform a restore you will have to merge the tape.

If you are using SQL Server then the SQL account you specified may be invalid. The database engine usually dies if the SQL account is no good.

The error message and the fact that the job number has a * next to it are indicators that the job failed to connect with the database. This does not always mean that the job will fail. It does mean that all your catalog files (records of each file backed up) are not in your database and you will have plenty of trouble restoring your data.

The database for the workgroup edition is the same as the other editions.
