Active Sync with Outlook 2003

I am currently experiencing issues when sync-ing with my outlook when I sync with outlook it duplicates my external emails only. Internal office email works all ok, but we are currently running exchange 5.5 with outlook 2003 which I know is not supported but a collegue of mine has the same and syncs without any problems !!! Bizzare has anyone else had this problem,
