Active Sync w/ Exchange 2003 on Windows 2000 server 1

Is this configuration possible? I've tried what seems like everything, and OMA and ActiveSync do not work, however, OWA with SSL works great. Any thoughts?

Yes, it is possible. At my last job we ran OWA/OMA on a server that used Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2000 server, and we didn't have any problems synching over the web with our PDA/smartphone devices. But if you need RPC over HTTP (i.e., the ability to use Outlook 2003 from an external location by connecting to your OWA server) then you need to be running Windows 2003.

I just get a generic error on the Smartphone that there was an error on the server and to see my network administrator, then when I looks at the Event Viewer I get a OMA error 1503 and with ActiveSync I just get logs that say it loaded and unloaded but on the smartphone it says ActiveSync encoutered a problem on the server.

I have done the scenario located in KB817379 but I have not restarted the IIS Admin yet to see if its resolved. I guess only that will tell me for sure.

What is really strange, is that I have stop signs in my IIS manager next to some of the Virtual Directories. What does that mean?

How do I start them? When I right-click and say all tasks, all I get is Permissions Wizard.

Sounds like your pathing is hosed. Unlike the rest of the directories, those three subdirectories all point to \\.\BackOfficeStorage

Is that what you have in the patch for those?

If not, what are they?

What walkthrough did you originally use when you tried to set up RPC/HTTPS?

Yeah, that is what the path says. How can I rebuild those directories? Please say not a reinstallation of Exchange.

Followed KB817379 and after a restart all directories are not showing stop signs anymore, however, ActiveSync and OMA still do not work.

What am I missing?

I would go through Daniel Petri's walkthrough for Exchange ActiveSync and make sure all your settings are in place:

If the details you need aren't in this article (it looks like they may not be), check out the list of articles at the bottom, I know that one of them is a server-side setup walkthrough for OMA, which may also include the needed details for fixing Exchange ActiveSync.
