Active Directory OU rule creation - setting default values

I’m trying to figure out if it is possible to assign default values to a user account depending on which OU it gets placed into.

i.e. for instance if user, Ted Smith is created and placed in OU called EMC, ted smith and any other user that is in that OU or placed into the OU will inherit the company name EMC.

I'm a little confused about this question. Any user you place in the EMC OU will be listed in that OU could you possiblt elaborate on it please

Hi,

What I'm trying to achieve is setting default values for an OU's i.e. company name, account expiry date, Profile path, logon script name and home folder name and path that will be inherited by users when created in that OU.

eg.

For the OU unit EMC, when a new user is added to the EMC OU they will automatically get assigned the company name and the other attributes that I have mentioned above.

Currently, each OU has different values for the above attributes.

I am not sure this is possible within AD without applying other tools and scripts. I assume also if the new use moves OU's you would want the attributes to change to reflect new OU.

You can script this using various utils. However, another option maybe to create a template user in each OU from which all the new users are created from.

You could create a template account in each OU to copy when creating new users. Most of the attributes you want to use will then be copied to the new user. I can't remember all the attributes off the top of my head but give it a try.
