Greetings!

I have a windows 2003 server setup in Active Directory. For some reason, the browsing under the domain in my network places is intermittent. On some occassions I can browse through the domain computers, on others it tells me "the specified network name is no longer available" or "network path cannot be found" after 10 or more tries, it seems to let me in where I can see all the machines but only for that moment.

The machine is always pingable at <1ms, and logging onto the domain is not a problem. Can anyone suggest anything?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Sam

Howdy Sam...

This sounds very much like a wins problem. Make sure that you have got the correct wins server settings on your clients and on the servers. And if you do not have a wins server service running on your serverm, install it. Trust me it's worth it (some legacy things like this and the floppy disk just won't die). Further to this make sure that there are no windows 95 or 98 machines on the network that still have master browser turned on (default setting). This can play hell on the network as one of them will start answering machine queries.
