Hi,

Im brand new to networking.

I have a windows 2000 server which I need setup as Active Directory. The server will be connected to other client machines.

I have been reading some "how to's" in this area, and am constantly coming accross references to windows 2000. Thats where my question comes from...it may seem like a silly question to those in-the-know...but im certainly not in-the-know yet...
Do the client machines in Active Directory need windows 2000 as their OS?

you can have all OS from win 95 to XP as clients...

what benefits they can use then depends on which OS they have...

Group policy can only be applied to machines with W2k or XP, for example...
but as clients joined to the domain, you can use all the others.
from experience, it is better to try to have 2000/XP if possible, it is a lot more comfortable from an admin point of view...

if its not broken, fix it anyway - with luck you might break it and have an excuse
