Hello,

While studying for my active directory test I had a test network set up. 1 win2k server 4 clients. Network in native mode with a domain. I set up a test gpo to block windows update and it worked. I have since deleted that gpo but when I sign into this one pc with the account, the windows update is still denied. It is both no longer in the start menu and if you type the url into I.E. there is a security message saying access denied. I have tried deleting and recreating the user but it still occurs.

Is there any way I can log the attempt to find out where it is being blocked. Or can anyone tell me why it is happening?

Thanks in advanced.

There are two things you can do.

1. Edit the registry and change the setting.
2. Create another GPO which explicitly allows the windows update. Once it is run once on each computer you can remove it.

The GPO changes registry settings on the clients which remain unless the are reversed by another GPO.

I hadn't thought of that. THanks. I have found the registry key and it had been disabled. Thank you for your quick response!
