I have an HP Media Center 873n. I have restored the windows ( located on a partition on the HD - SYSTEM RESTORE)and it's asking me to activate windows. I called MS and activate it. The windows is legal and all it's fine however when I restart it's asking me to activated it again. If I choose later of no its logging me off. I have restored the machine 4 times. Called HP however the machine its out warranty and they want money

Does anyone know the way around it? I can get into the windows ones I activated but after I shut down it locks me and ask me to activate again.

PLEASE HELP......

Xp Keeps requiring to be activated

XP Activation Loop
thread779-1004125

Basically I think this is something that will have to be resolved by contacting Microsoft.

Thank you for the response. There is one issue. Its asking me to change the key Cryptography\Providers from:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers

I do not have that key. I already called MS and they recognized the windows key as being legal. I tried everything as per your insturction but no change. Any other ideas?

Has the install partition of XP (drive letters) changed since the original install?

Have you tried Safe Mode and checked that Cryptographic Services is not disabled? It should be set to automatic.

Is there anything in this selection similar to your problems?

I suppose you could try Microsoft Support again, and ask to speak to Supervisor. As this is an OEM license I thought HP would be responsible for your support despite the machine being out of warranty?

Alternatively you can save what data you can from Safe Mode and start from a clean install.
