With a published desktop (not published apps), how can I limit user access to Acrobat Pro (limited licenses)? And along the same lines, once I've installed Pro, the default file association for PDFs uses pro, not the Reader. How can that be changed as well?

Depends if your server is 2000 or 2003, as 2003 File Associations acan be per user, whereas 2000 file associations are per server.

You can restrict access to Adobe Acrobat via NTFS Permissions & Software Restriction Policy to comply with the EULA.

Changes in File Types and File Association Features in Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003:

If the server is 2003 you can script the association via logon script.

Thanks. It is a 2003 server. Do you have or can you point me to a sample script to set the file association, preferably by group membership?

I was thinking of something like exporting the registry setting you need, the adding in a script with the following line:

regedit /s RegFile.reg

For Group Membership, you can use ifmember from the Resource Kit, example here:

or native WSH via VBS Logon Script (better choice):

Thanks. I've looked at that as a possibility. But I am trying to get the client to purchase PDF995 as an alternative - that way everyone has access.

What are your exact requirements, i.e.

1. Print any file to PDF
2. Secure PDF
3. Interactive PDF (with working URL Hyperlinks)
4. Fill-out PDF Forms and save to file.
5. Ability to merge serveral files into one PDF
6. PDF Forms that people can fill-out

If you just need number one, you can use Cute PDF which is free. There are lots of ghostscript PDF products that are fairly inexpensive and do 2-6.

Thanks. I don't think the client really knows what the requirement is (typical). They just have a few users with it installed on their workstations, so they wanted it on the Citrix server.
