Acrobat Deployment via a GPO

I am hoping someone will have run into this already ...

I have Acrobat Reader 6.0.1 installed locally on each computer on my network (about 250 computers spread across 4 sites). I would like to be able to install the software through a GPO so that when v7.0 comes out someday we can just force the uninstall of 6.0 through a GPO and then install v7.0.

So here is my question ... if I push out v6.0.1 right now with v6.0.1 already installed locally on the various machines will it install properly or am I asking for headaches? Any better ideas for managing this?

i have done this in the past, but i cant remerber how exactly.

google for msi acrobat reader..
i know you run the setup that will download the reader... then you quit the install.

you will then find in the temps directory it created an .msi file that you can use to deploy

did it a while back, worked a treat (but in my old job, so can't find the info any more :/)

and for acrobat reader 7.0, follow the install once downloaded, then copy the whole directory corresponding to the languqge you chose that is in
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Setup Files\RdrBig\
use all this in a share and the MSI as the deployment package

I don't think that anybody here actually answered the question. The question was, if you roll out AR6.01 via GPO on top of a manual AR6.01 install, will you run into problems later when you try to uninstall via GPO. My guess is probably so. At the very least you will end up with multiple entries in add/remove programs. I always remove the manual installs before using a GPO to roll out an automated install.

I pretty sure the GPO version will uninstall and leave the original there as thats the idea. The only real way is to test.

if the same soft is installed when the gpo assigns.. not sure it will install. yeah, a test is the only way to find out.

i did this with acrobat published, and it wouldnt install while i had it already installed.
Uninstalled it and it worked fine.

I think if it's a later version the MSI will upgrade or replace.
There's no way to be sure without trying or ringing Adobe.

The only problem I see with that is that Adobe specifically advises you to uninstall all previous versions of Acrobat Reader before installing the newer versions, otherwise you won't be able to uninstall the previous version (even after uninstalling the newer version).
