account naming convention question 1

I have about 20 people in one domain that use first initial/ last name for the domain account. We just hired a new manager that wants first name only. (plus a whole host of other b.s. demands) Anyway, I need to come up with some technical reasons why I can't grant his request.
Anybody have some ideas?

Yeh because it's f****** ridiculous. Other than that non really it's not like you need to rename 1000 users.

From a security perspective, it would be a whole lot less likely that two users would have the same First Initial/Last Name combination than the other way around....although I work in a HIPAA regulated env, so we have to use employee numbers...LOL

The problem is that the rule is quickly broken, it's quite likely that at some point two Janes will work there and then what? It turns into Jane1 or Jane_1, initial/surname is a more flexible solution.

If it were me, I'd be real frank.

You have an established way of naming logins for security purposes. This allows for easy security tracking, management, and troubleshooting.

I am one who stands by all policies created because I created them for a reason. If some poor (bleep) has a problem because they can't type in first inital last name, then that's their problem.

Besides, you can make whatever reason you want. Its not like they know what the craps going on. lol
