Hello,

When typing the product code for Office 2003, I accidentally mistyped the last set of numbers. Before I realized it, I had pressed enter.

I am afraid to register with an incorrect (but working) product code, in fear that they will see me, or someone else, as having stolen the software. Does anyone know of a way to change the product number?

Thanks a lot to anyone who can help!
- Ian

You don't have to Register it but Product Activation has to be done. If the installation accepted the CD Key and it installed [won't if it's wrong], try the Activation.

I entered the wrong product number, but it was still a valid number. The activation will be valid, but not necessarily unique, which is where we run into problems. I don't want them to suspect me of piracy when I bought the computer with the software myself.

"Microsoft Product Activation is an anti-piracy technology designed to verify that software products have been legitimately licensed. It is quick, simple, unobtrusive, and helps protect customer privacy.

Product Activation works by verifying that a software program's product key, which you must use in order to install the product, has not been used on more personal computers than intended by the software's license. You can use a software activation wizard that enables you to provide your product ID (derived from the installation product key) to Microsoft either through an encrypted transfer over the Internet, or by telephone. A response (confirmation ID) is sent back to your machine to activate your product. "

The only thing I can think of (there may be other ways), is to un-install the product and re-install it. In the past I have found it asks for the product code again.
