Accessing Files on XP box from other PCs

I have an XP box that we want to use as a file resource for installing applications and storing ghost images.

I have disabled the simple file share option on the PC and have enabled specific users on the shares.

At present if the password on the XP file resource for a specific account does not match up, it will prompt the user to login with a username/password - which is what we want. BUT, I type in my username/password combo - say test/test and it won't let me access the shares list.

I've even tried going directly to \\pcname\share and immediately get the response of access denied, it doesn't even prompt me to login.

Yet, if I change the password so that they match the currently logged in account it will work perfectly fine.

I've tried removing the users from the "Deny access" portion of the local policy. I've tried this with the no-one logged in to the XP file resource either locally or remotely.

So far nothing is working.

HELP!
