I have a feeling I know the answer, but to get into the bios, is it by pressing f8........well I don't want to make a fool of myself, so any help would be appreciated, and how do you start in safe mode? through the bios?
thks in adv.
[F8] generally gets you into a boot menu on windows. Safe mode is one of the choices.
This is not the same as CMOS setup in the BIOS. There are 5 or 6 methods of getting into the BIOS, depending on how the BIOS was set up. Compaq uses [F10] when cursor is in upper right during POST. HP uses [F2]. Others use the delete key. Some use [CTRL][ALT]+[NUMERIC +]. Some use [C][A]+[Numeric -]. Some use [C][A]+[ESC].
As you can imagine, it gets to be fun sometimes. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.
thanks for the input, I should have included my specs: my bad: gateway, 266mhz, 64ram, and also when I turn my computer on and all these stats show up, it says press f1 to enter setup, what is that and what can you do in there. or is that the bios.
Thanks
Yes, it's F1 for Gateways. There are a variety of reasons you might want to go into your BIOS, mostly for troubleshooting or configuration changes. Go ahead and look around in there if you want but unless your having problems I'd suggest you not make any changes.
