We have an Access database that we can't change anything in the design b/c the creator resigned and didn't leave the password. I created a new Workgroup file (.mdw) with one user (Admin no password) but still doesn't have permissions to change the design (can look at everything though).

Is there anyway to get into the Workgroup file (mdw) file and clear the restrictions?????

Thank You

As long as you can look at everything you are in luck. If you have read design and read data (where appropriate) permission to everything in the database with admin, then you can import everything into a new Access file. When you import objects into the new file, the current user becomes the owner and has full permissions.

If this 'solution' is something you want to avoid, make sure you remove all permissions from the admin user and the users group as they are common to all workgroup files.

Thank You LameId

I could export the tables and the Queries but I only have Open/Run permissions on the Forms, Reports and Macros.

Is there a way I can manipulate the workgroup file or is there anything else i could try?

Dabones,

The first thing to know is that the person who resigned is most likely breaking the law by withholding that information from you, and would probably be convinced rather quickly by a call from your lawyer.

The second thing to know is that it's not that hard to get into a properly secured database. If you are still having trouble with this _after contacting this person_, send me an e-mail telling me a bit about your story and I'll let you in on how to get into the database.
