I have encountered a wierd problem. All of a sudden, Access will only open all databases in Read Only format. It will open MDE's fine, but not MDB's. Neither of them allow change of data in the tables.

Has anyone had this problem? This has nothing to do with security, and has nothing to do with specific databases. I have tried to reinstall Access but it doesn't solve the problem.

I can't design the db's , nor change table data. I'm using A2003 w/ developer extensions.

OK. The first thing is are the mdbs writable eg not on, or copied from, cds?

I'm having the same problem in V2003, but only on one workstation. When I point to the distribution copy on the server, it runs fine.

There is no ldb file, so noone is using the local DB.

Just out of curiousity, are you by chance also having a sudden problem where cascading updates don't cascade?

BNPMike.

This an issue that I haven't seen in working with Access. I have been using it for 3 years. I"m very familiar with Access.

It seems like there is a file that is corrupt from the installation. I"m not sure, but I think that the solution would be to completely un-install access. However, I don't know everything that Access installs and don't know how to absolutely remove everything.

There was one error in my original post. Access will open mdb's, I can't save to the original file, or make changes to the data in tables.

Update on Result of Install.

The installation of Access repaired the problem for about 5 days.

Now it's happening again.

Any suggestions?
