Good morning, Guys!

Just a very quick 'Access Security' question which I have never really been clear on at all
(Did check the relevant faqs on Microsoft support et al, - but still a bit muddled!):

When implementing Access security does one split the datebase before or after implementing security??

Many thanks in advance.

Best wishes,

I'm somewhat fuzzy about this, but to be safe, I'll answer: Split before securing.

Also, note that when securing your split database, note that you have to set permissions for both your table links AND your backend tables. I generally just set the table link permissions to 'full' (but disallow administration of the table links, otherwise everything allowed), then I set the actual permissions on the backend tables. Access will use the most restrictive permissions, i.e. if the table link allows access and the table disallows access, you will be disallowed.

That should be the only hiccup you'll see.

If you split after securing, you would probably lose all security information about the tables, or possibly lose all security information about the forms/queries/reports/macros/(modules).
