Hello, I have a split database with the backend on a server, and "some" of the front-ends on the server. (most are on each machine though) My question is what are the minimum permissions that must be given to a user or group of users to let them see the file or shortcut, and launch and use the database?
I have found bits and pieces of info on this in the forums, but nothing specifie. I have the database secured pretty well with workgroup and custom built security, but what I'm looking for is a way to prevent users from creating files / folders on the server in the same folder the DB is in. Ideally, users should be able to see the shortcuts only, and edit the database once opened. I haven't been able to find a setting that will let them modify the db (and create an .ldb file) while not letting them get into the same directory and making files / shortcuts.
Finally, as a matter of protecting my work, is there a way to prevent users from copying the database off the server?
(we're using Win 2K server, though our IT dept is managing that, and it's government work, so I don't have much pull with them! Local machines are all win2000 / winXP pro.)
