Hello all,

maybe someone can give me a hint into the right direction.

We are running a Windows 2000 Terminal Server in application mode. Havíng all TS clients added their local printers is no problem at all, but when connecting to a network printer via "Add printers" we have difficulties.

The add printer process finishes normally, but when trying to access the printer afterwards, or just clicking on the printer icon results in a status message "Access denied, unable to connect" (even when logged on as Admin...)

What's missing, is it a general issue or just me ?

Is the TS getting GPO's from the domain? If so, is there a setting within the domain GPO that states "Prevent users from installing printers"?

If the TS is not getting a domain GPO, have you looked in the local policy? If "Prevent users from installing printers" is enabled, then USERS will not be able to add printers.

I just checked to see if you could download the RSoP.msc (from either XP or 2003 servers resource kits) and it appears you can't load them onto a 2000 machine. I would suggest looking at your policies manually.

We checked these settings and also tried to change them, but still the same result. But we also tried a little bit more, and now I kan give some further information.

The printer is being installed correctly and with all drivers when using the Add wizzard, you can print to the printer as well as examine the printers properties. But clicking on the printer icon within the printers folder or double click to open it, results in the above mentioned error message. So no status messages are available or handling of the printer queue can be done.
