I have created a form for inputting data and I created a Combo box with the cost numbers for the departments. The end user sometimes has multiply forms to input into to form for the same cost number But when he clicks on the control to ADD NEW RECORD he has to select the cost number again and again. How can I make it a default until he is ready to chose another cost center.

you might be better off posting this in Access Forms forums. I am not sure how to help, because I can't visualize your form in my mind.

What version are you using ( I always ask)

Does your form have tabs - page tabs?

Does your form have subforms?

How did you create the data for the combo box? Is it in a table, source for the combo, etc...

How is the tab order set on your form?

Is the form continuous?

Yeah, that should help. lol.

I need lots of help... :)

In answer to your questions....

First, I didn't realize that it was posted in the Office rather than ACCESS, thanks for the idea.

What version are you using - XP
Does your form have tabs - page tabs? NO PAGE TABS

Does your form have subforms? NO SUBFORMS

How did you create the data for the combo box? Is it in a table, source for the combo, etc... DATE IS STORED IN A TABLE THAT IS BEING USED FOR THE FORM

How is the tab order set on your form? IN THE DETAIL..I don't understand this question.

Is the form continuous? Not that I know

Yeah, that should help. lol.
I need lots of help... I TOO Need LOTS OF HELP.
thanks in advance of any clues I can get.

ok I will start with the date combo - if this form is for user entry, the combo should be a lookup in the table, set in design view, its actual data should lay in a defining table. ( a table that defines the set date values used)

right click the left corner of your form in design view, and select tab order ( not properties!) from here, drag the fields up and down, so that they go in the order the user should be tabbing to them.

Then go to your forms properties... go to the format tab. Look at the default view for the form. If the form is single, the user can tab and tab, they will only cycle through the current record that they are on. This type of set up generally requires them to save each record and select to make a new record ( done by command buttons or save button and navigation buttons)

Continous forms will allow the user to tab once through each field, and when they hit the first field a second time, it takes them to a new record. Dynaset show a snapshot of the records, not live. That is my understanding. You might look default form view up in help and read about it for better explaination.

I think I found a solution to this question. Instead of using a combo box use a regular text box - and instead of using a control button to select new record I used duplicate record and it keeps the cost center and the date and all the end user has to do is key in the other fields until he wants to change the cost center or date. Now the only question I have to ask is - how do I add a control button and not let the tab key click on the button.

on the properties of the control button ( right click in design, and go to properties) there is an option on one of the tabs for tab stop. Set that to no. In the in bar, it explains what it does, but thats it. Whether to tab to the object or not.
