My Goal: Address Book Report (Access 2002)
No Report Header-
Nice big text box with Letter 'A' or 'B' at the top of page for the A's B's C's, etc-
The info (a few pages each of the A's, B's C's etc)-
ForceNewPage at the end of each letters' section-
No Report Footer-

Any help appreciated-
Do I need to make 26 groups? Then Each Text Box letter would be the Group Header?

Thanks, Shfog

So far I have created the Address Book Report with Page Breaks at the end of each Section (A,B,C etc)
But I still don't see how to add an "A" at the top of the first page of the A's,
and then a "B" at the top of the first page of the B's, etc.

If I only had a brain...

Read this topic in the Access Help file:

Print the first few characters of a value as a group header in a report

Thsanks for your reply.
I use Access 2002 and I can't find your reference in the Access Help section.
If you could be a bit more specific I think that would help.
If I got it to work for the group header, would I need 26 groups to make it work as an address book?

Hi Shfog

Not sure about access 2002 - but its gotta be the same.

In query add an extra field:

LeftLetter: Left([ProductName],1)
Just cut and paste this into 'Field'

This will generate the letter you need.

Then follow Lightning's advice.

Thank You Stew,
I see the concept of making the first letter appear in a field.
But how do I get the letter to print at only the first page of the 'A's', then the first page of the 'B's', then the first page of the 'C's', etc..
26 groups?..

Thanks, Shfog

Hi Shog

OK

SO you have a field to Group by with.

In the report - click on the 'sorting and grouping' icon and select your new 'LeftLetter' field (might have to change report record source - to make it available).

The data will be grouped by this field.

To make the data appear, in the sorting and grouping dialogue box, ensure that 'Group Header' is set to yes - so that the section becomes visible.

After that - just place you new field in the Group header section (Probably called 'LeftLetter Header')

Stew

PS I think if you use the report wizard - it will do all of this for you.
