Hi there!
We have an Access 97 application. I moved that application to an windows XP machine and everything seems to be working fine except some of the field values on printouts shows "Name?" instead of the actual value entered?

Any idea greatly appreciated

Thanks

Check your refernce libraries under the database. Open a code window then select Tools->References.

our setup as follows;
each machine has an .mdb front end application which accesses another database on the server. Are you talking about the local mdb file in my machine?

What references should I check for?

Correct the front end is suspect. Especially if there are no standard configurations on PCs which are using the fornt end. Do other PCs have the same issue or just one?

only the PCs that is running windows xp has the problem. The settings on all of the computers looks exactly same if I don't miss anything.

I could not check the references since nobody has admin rights to go into code modules..

Perhaps attempt to install on another WinXP PC running Access97. Make sure the directories are exactly the same as on the other PC which are working. Additionally, being unable to review the code/reference, is a problem. Contact the developer/vendor or application owner for assistance.

I did actually install it on 3 WinXP pro machines running Access97. They are all same

I just copied the mdb front end from windows2000 machine to winXP machine keeping the same folder structure.

We can't contact the developer he is not around.

You may want to confirm that MS Access 97 is installed on the same directory path on the WinXP PCs as the other PCs that are working.

In terms of not having the password to the code within the MS Access Database, you should research your options via this site, microsoft.com and google. I have heard there are some password cracker utilities available, but have never needed one myself. I would recommend in the future that your development team establish guidelines for documenting passwords and insuring transfer of knowledge when staff turnover occurs. Especially if you are using consultants.

Again, if this database is a product, I would recommend against attempting to open the code, as it may cause issues if anything is unwittingly modified. You should contact the vendor for assistance.

Good Luck,

I am not an expert; except perhaps in some programming.
I needed to look at the code in an Access97 app bought 'out of house'.

Notice that both your application and Access97 by itself have a security file *.mdw .
I re-named the system.mdw file in Access97 to a backup , say
backiupsys.mdw ( so as to save it to restore to Access97 for normal usage ).
I then copied the app.mdw file to the Access97 folder location and re-named it system.mdw .
Now, when I open Access97 , it asks me for the application password; but once I enter it I am allowed into the application tables and code without the 'wrapper' of the app around it.
Haven't had to make a code change, yet, though; but it works for looking at the code and tables.
Might not work for all Access97 apps.

I think I actually renamed the system.mdw file to
system.backmdw; so that the Access97 app wouldn't be confused. You probably wouldn't want to have 2 *.mdw files there.
