Access 97, Expression too complex

I just moved an Access 97 database from an old NT4 server to a fast new Win2003 server. Now some of my queries that work fine when the database is on the NT server fail with "The expression is typed incorrectly, or it's too complex to be evaluated...." with the database on the new server.

I've compacted the database and run the repair tool to no avail.

What's interesting is I do see a page of results, then in a few seconds the error message appears. It just feels like a network/performance-related issue. Other queries in the databawse work just fine from the new server. This isn't a FE/BE database everything is stored on the server, though there is a linked table to another database on the server.

A guess, does the the new server have (or has it had in the past) newer versions of Access and/or Office on it?

Hey thanks for your interest. The new server doesn't have and has never had Access on it. It does though have SQL Server. But I really thought Access just did file reads and writes to the shared drive where the database sits.

OK, I was asking the question because I have seen this error occur when a PC has had several versions installed, and incompatibilities between object libraries cuse problems with build in functions

A false alarm in your case, sorry ....
