I converted an Access 2002 database to Access 2000 format. Access 2000 won't open it: a message box comes up with "Unable to show database window", and then advises me to get a newer version of Internet Explorer. That's impossible as I'm using version 6.

The Access 2002 machine is Windows 2000 Pro, with IE 5.x. The Access 2000 machine is Windows 2000 Adv Server, with IE 6.
The only thing I can think of is that for some reason it's looking for IE 5.x, can't find it, and so advises me to get a newer version (thinking it is an older version). I'm guessing that Access must use IE in some way even just loading.

Any ideas?

convert it to access97 then open it in 2000 and select convert to 2000

Good Luck

It won't convert to 97 (stops responding part way through), but I figured out what's wrong (in both conversion cases); I have to remove the links to tables in the backend data.

Once I remove all the links it converts perfectly. Then I just put them back in the converted one.
